I love this topic. A Role Model to me is someone who is honest and true to themselves when no one is around and also when everyone is around. They live following what is in their heart, doing what their heart tells them is truly the right to do in each situation, no matter who is watching. A Role Model to me is someone who could be recorded throughout their days, and be proud of everything they did.
This may sound selfish or cheesy at first, but I’ll explain. My main role model is myself. The reasons that I am my main role model are pretty important to me. We are all a little bit different from each other, so if I look to someone else as my main role model, they’ll have some qualities that I might love, and others that don’t ring true to me. So while I do have inspirational people in my life that I use to see their great points of view and qualities to adopt in my own life, I still stay my own role model. The second and probably the biggest and most important reason to me for being my own Role Model is the drive/passion/accountability it gives me to be the best person I can be every day, to always improve, and to always love myself. If I look to someone else as a role model, it is easy to stick in the zone of admiring them and forgetting about myself. If I choose to be my own role model, I want to be the best role model I can be for myself and for others, and it is up to me to do that. This doesn’t mean I don’t allow myself to relax or have down-time, and it certainly doesn’t mean that I get mad at myself for making mistakes (I definitely make them!). To me personally, it just means that I trust myself and love myself enough to give myself the title of being my own role model, and that makes me feel wonderful, and also subconsciously sends a message to myself that I do love me and believe in myself to make it to the highest point of my ideal life.
MANY MANY people have shaped my life in too many ways to write about here, but I would have to list my mom for being a huge inspiration and great example for absolute, unconditional love. I have no doubt that whatever I do in life, she will believe in me and think that it is just perfect. Many self-improvement/motivational/inspirational authors have had a huge impact on my life in the last few years as well, and one of the codes I live by is Constant and Never-Ending Self-Improvement, and I love it!

There’s so much goodness in your comment that I have no idea where to start. First of all, I love that you’re listing your mom as your inspiration. I know we talked about this before, but moms often go unnoticed and their sacrifices and acts of love aren’t really appreciated. I hope your mom knows how much she means to you.
Also, I love your idea of what a role model should be like. It’s easy to be one way when you’re surrounded by others by then be a complete jackass when you’re alone or with people you don’t consider “important” (and yes, many people still classify others).
And go you for listing yourself as your role model. No, I don’t think it is selfish at all and if people think it is, they lack self-esteem and self-appreciation. Again, I have to say that we live in a world where we constantly compare ourselves to others: our bodies, jobs, houses, cars, etc. and it always leads to dissatisfaction and happiness. But learning to be OK with yourself and what you have, being the best person you can be and being proud of who you are is the way to make this world a better place.
